Background & Aims: Marital burn out occurs when couples realize that, despite all their efforts, the relationship in their life has no special meaning. The accumulation of frustrations and tensions eventually lead to burnout. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of quality of life therapy on marital burn out  among women .

Materials & Methods: This quasi-experimental study included pretest-posttest and control group. The study population consisted of all married women who referred to health centers in East Tehran in 2011. The sample consisted of 30 married women who had inclusion criteria and were randomized into an experimental group and control group. The experimental group underwent 10 sessions of counseling based on quality of life. Pine’s marital Burnout Questionnaire was used and the data were analyzed by SPSS version 18 statistical method and ANOVA.

Results:  No significant difference was found between control and experimental groups at post-test (p<0.01). The scores in the experimental group decreased burnout.

Conclusion: The result showed that quality of life therapy could decrease the marital burn out. Therefore, it seems beneficial to use this group therapy to decrease marital burn out.
