Artificial intelligence (AI) offers promising opportunities to help tackle infectious disease

This Series paper proposes a conceptual framework to map the layers and domains where AI solutions can be applied to infectious disease prevention and management across clinical practice, research, and public health.

However, data availability, technical, regulatory, ethical and cultural barriers, skepticism, and lack of training among infectious disease professionals still limit the translation of AI’s potential into practice.
