Abstract:   (22759 Views)

Discoid lupus erythematosus is known as a rare disease in children manifesting itself with erythematose scaly plaque in area exposed to sunlight. In case of extensive disease, it could progress toward SLE.

In this study, we report a case of a 5 year-old boy, residing in Tabriz, who had erythematose and atrophic scaly lesions on scalp, face, and fingers. Pathologic studies showed typical changes of disease including degenerative liquifaction in basal layer, along with epidermal thining and degereative change in connective tissue and patchy lymphocytic in filtration. ANA test was positive and anti-DNA was negative, therapy with sunscreen and oral chloroquine led to an improvement in patient's lesion.

Although DLE is rare in children, if erythematose plaque is resistant against treatment that exacerbate with sunlight, it is necessary to consider the probable existance of the disease.
