  Background & Aims : Cancer is a disease in which the different factors that play a role in the personality characteristics, levels of psychological stress and depression are important factors. This study compared the personality characteristics, levels of psychological stress and depression in cancer patients and normal people.

  Materials & Methods : This research was a comparison of this study descriptive. All cancer patients have been included -from Shahid Ghazy and Ostad Aalinasab hospital of Tabriz. The control group included the teachers and staff education and office staff contacts which were selected by matching method. Participants were 111 men and women -56 with cancer and the other 55 without cancer. Also for data collection used of demographic research, test type C, Eysenck Personality Test, scale of life events and Zong Depression Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-tests were used for analysis.

  Results : Data analysis showed that cancer patients reported significantly higher levels of stress and depression than non-cancer individuals. The patient factors extraversion gained lower scores and also higher scores on the Neuroticism and type C subjects. However depression in cancer patients were higher than healthy individuals

  Conclusion : The findings stated that the personality characteristic Neuroticism, life events stress and depression in cancer is as effective and dangerous. Therefore, efforts to reduce these personality trait and to exposure sense of life stress and depression seems to be necessary.
