Abstract:   (14290 Views)

Nephropaty is one of the long-term troubles of diabetes. Using antidiabetic plants has been increased in diabetic treatment recently. The effects of Aloe vera aqueous-ethanolic extract had been studied on diabetic rat's nephropaty.

32 male Wistar rats, 140.13 ± 25.74gr were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=8): 1 (control), 2 (control + extract), 3 (diabetic control), 4 (diabetic + extract). IDDM was established by intra peritoneal injection of 60mg/kg per rat streptozotocin twice. 3 and 4 groups were treated using 10mg/per Ratof Aloe vera extract for 1 month. Changes of kidney weight were studied after nephroctomy. Then glomerulei structural changes were studied using biometric, microscopic and stereological methods and recorded data.

Analysis of obtained data using Excell and SPSS showed increasing kidney weight and glomerulei hypertrophy in groups 3 and 4 in comparison with groups 1 and 2. Finally using Aloe vera caused reproduction of renal and mezangial cells whose mechanism is not known yet. Aloe vera is not useful for diabet nephropaty treatment although this matter needs more studies.
