Background & Aims: Evidence based medicine (EBM) is proper, correct and intellectual use of the best evidence in clinical decision making for every single patient care. Physicians need to be instructed about using clinical epidemiology subjects and familiarity with sources like Cochrane or Dare. Aim of this research was assessing the knowledge and use of evidence-based medicine among physicians of some districts.

Materials & Methods : It was a cross-sectional study. The study included 245 general practitioners, specialists and hospitals residents in 1390 in Iran. The data were collected using a questionnaire including information regarding research purposes. The face and content validity and reliability with the approval of authorities was α= 0.8 and were analyzed through Spss software descriptive statistic.

Results : Physicians had average knowledge of EBM. While 149 ones (60. 8%) knew Medline base, less than 10% of them used these bases. Also 165 ones (67. 3% of physicians) knew the expression of meta-analyze but low percentages of them use this expression.

Conclusion : Despite the fact that physicians has average knowledge of evidence based medicine, they don’t use this procedure for answering their questions in treating patients. It seems that lack of motivation and absence of needed investing for fulfillment of this procedure has caused physicians inattention in using that in medicine.
